Sept. 22, 2020 (TORONTO): Drake Hotel Properties is thrilled to announce the opening of the Artist Loft, a first of its kind apartment right next door to the brand’s flagship location, The Drake Hotel in West Queen West (1150 Queen Street West). The 800 sq. ft. space, which is designed as a home base for touring artists playing Drake Underground and to house The Drake’s Artist in Residency program, also gives up to 8 guests an opportunity to share the same four walls enjoyed by some of the world’s most exciting up and coming talent. The expansive space adds a 20th room to The Drake Hotel, recently selected by Travel + Leisure as one of the top city hotels in Canada, in advance of the additional upcoming 32-room expansion project slated to open in 2021. Reservations for the Artist Loft are now available for overnight stays starting October 1, 2020.

“The Drake Hotel and Drake Underground have been a staple in the Toronto creative scene for 17 years, with artists like Billie Eilish, Leon Bridges, M.I.A. and more performing their first shows in Toronto on our stages,” said Chris Wilson, Director of Programming and Brand Partnerships, Drake Hotel Properties. “We wanted to give all the incredible artists that play our stages a unique space that shows our appreciation for their craft and that continues to foster the creative vibes that spark in the Drake Underground, the Sky Yard, and other spaces of The Drake Hotel, so the Artist Loft was born. You can really feel the energy as soon as you walk into the room, and we can’t wait for our guests to be able to experience it for themselves.”

The Artist Loft will be available for overnight stays starting October 1, 2020 and is perfect for families and groups looking to explore one of Canada’s most exciting urban communities, West Queen West. The area is filled with galleries, shops, restaurants and more, and is easily accessible to popular tourist draws like the Art Gallery of Ontario, Museum of Contemporary Art, Royal Ontario Museum, CN Tower, Air Canada Centre and more. The space will also be available for small-scale private events like listening parties, product previews, meet and greets, and more.

The Artist Loft will also house The Drake’s ongoing Artist in Residency program, which allows for creators in all mediums to spend time in The Drake’s unique environment to explore different facets of their work and spark inspiration.

The Space and Amenities

Steps from the main hotel, the second-floor walk-up space, located above an early 20th century storefront, sleeps up to eight and consists of two private bedrooms each with a Queen-sized bed, plus a loft space above with two additional queen beds. The open-concept accommodation has a communal leisure space with couches and a kitchenette.

Particularly valuable in the current moment, the space is accessible via a private entrance with keyless check-in, allowing for social distancing measures and discrete entry. The space will be upkept with The Drake’s extensive GOODCLEANFUN© protocols and procedures, making it one of the safest options available in Toronto.

“We know today’s traveler is looking for an outside-the-box experience, and the Artist Loft provides exactly that,” says Scott Hart, Chief Operating Officer, Drake Hotel Properties. “Whether you’re a small team of creatives looking for an inspiring space to collaborate, a family seeking to get in touch with Toronto’s music scene on a weekend away, or a group of friends who want all the benefits of a private location paired with world-class hospitality, the Artist Loft is the answer. Our guests will get to experience how a true local lives in one of the country’s most energetic and exciting neighbourhoods. We can’t wait to welcome guests to this vibrant and one-of-a-kind space.”

Guests will be able to pre-order Drake Larder items made at nearby Drake Commissary like charcuterie, preserves, breads and sauces to stock the kitchenette in advance of their arrival. They will also be able to order a range of nibbles through Drake Catering, or takeaway items like the famous Drake Burger or Lobster Nachos from The Drake Hotel’s kitchen, open daily for lunch and dinner as well as weekend breakfast.

Art and Interiors

Frequent Drake collaborator DesignAgency designed the loft with an at-home feel and brimming with pops of colour, ideal for collaboration and creativity. Music and art fans alike will love the over a dozen historic posters from Canada’s prestigious Polaris Prize, collected by The Drake over the last decade, displayed throughout.
